Mine escaped and was missing for 8days the dog caught it and brought it in to me. Very proud he was and it was still alive. I was very proud that he didn't eat her as he was used for mouse catching.

Ahh, plastic is not a good idea. They can chew a hole through anything, haha. :P If he had a glass aquarium, chances are he's somehow squeezing himself between the water bottle and the cage to get up, lift the lid, and get out, dropping the lid behind him. A hamster of mine did that once. I solved the problem by putting weight on both ends of the cage. This could mean a heavy book over one corner of the food box. Either way, make sure he can't chew through the lid. If you have a wire cage, he may be lifting the entrance and letting it fall down fast enough to seemingly look like it remained closed. Again, this happened with me too. I had some wire out in the garage I was able to use and create something that would hold the door shut nice and snug. That way he couldn't get out. If there's no holes or anything, assume it's the door. Secure it with some sort of clean, safe lock. Perhaps not like a lock and key or anything, but a wire fastener. (: That's always worked for me. ^^

My hamster escaped for a whole week and there was no sign of her. We eventually found her behind a couch with a pile of dry cat food! She was skinny but alright. Why not make a trail of food leading away from the kitchen? I found that my hamster liked the corn kernel things. Good luck!

It appeared out from under the bath in a house three doors down seemingly none the worse for wear. How it managed it we never fou nd out.

Omg!! My hamster did that when I was 12 years old. We would hear him scratching inside the walls and one time he did come out, but then ran back in. Sadly, we never saw him again. I'm sure that if you set up safety traps for it, with food in it of course, then you will have better luck than I did. I really hope you get your pet back.

We haven't had hamsters for years, but we did have mice not too long ago. We had a specific two of them that were constantly getting out. We'd have them in the cage for like, a day, then they'd get away from us. At one point I think one of them was gone for roughly a month. It was entertaining, and we got it back. Eventually, that one escaped for good, but right up until we left the house we kept seeing it at random times and random places.
It's amazing, considering we had two cats in the house.

I'd set up some humane mouse traps, were I you. Hamsters LOVE the tunnel feel of it,and a little peanut butter will drag them right in. =)

Mine was in my wall for 4 days, later we found blood in my mom's closet...it was 6 months later, and I knew that the cat had gotten it. but he took the dog food into the closet for his "stash" of food. *shakes head and smiles* he was a resourceful thing/
