I was born in 19667 and I sort of remember this happening, but I am not sure if it really did.

I sort of remember either the beatles where number 2 and simon and garfuncel where number 1 and the next week the chart positions where reversed, or maybe it was the other way round.

Can anyone tell me if this ever happened. I guess it would be the early 70's if it did

Well my memory was partly right. There was a week when the beatles where number 2 and simon and garfunkel where number one, but the beatles never knocked them off the number one spot.

Not bad considering I was only 2 and a half at the time!!!!

Simon & Garfunkles only UK no.1 was Bridge Over Troubled Water in March 1970.
It replaced Wandrin' Star by Lee Marvin, and was knocked off the top spot by Dana - All Kinds Of Everything.
There was never a battle for the no.1 spot between the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkle.
Sorry to disappoint you.

Simon and Garfunkel only had one number 1 hit and that was Bridge over troubled water on feb 21st 1970. The Beatles only had one song out that year and it was Let it be, this reached number 2 on 14th march. Simon and Garfunkel split in 1971
