I am talking about money shows like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Who wants to be a millionaire, Deal or No Deal, etc… It cannot be from the commercial advertisements alone, and most of the time, the shows have free attending live audiences, so the audience is not dishing out any money either. Therefore, where do they acquire such huge sums of money to be able to give out such large amounts of money seemingly every week? I mean, even if the person does not win the million dollars, they still may get 10,000 one show, and then the next person wins 65,000 and then the next person 4,000. It still all adds up to a lot of money being handed out. So where is it coming from?

Many have written sponsors but that is not exactly true. Of course that revenue is necessary and helps but many shows run a deficit and actually cost more to produce than the ad dollars it generates. They are willing to do this because when they sell the show in syndication (reruns) at a 100% profit.
Game shows, however, are almost instantly profitable because of the low production cost. They have to pay for one host, not an entire cast (the models in Deal or no deal get paid very little because they are willing to be on for the exposure), and most importantly a one time cost for a set that never changes. Dramas and sitcoms have multiple sets that change weekly for the story line of that week.
The money they save from the production costs they could give away a couple of million a week and still make a profit. This is also why talk shows and court shows will always be around.

i think they get it from all the phone calls they get in that they charge alot for so they fleece people and give their money to other people. well thats what i think anyway
