Why do Europeans not like Bush? Each and every one of them that I've met so far hates his guts and I don't understand why. He is trying to stop the terrorists and we should all stand against them as one, because that is who are enemy is, and no one else. The first thing that pops out of the peoples' mouth when I talk to them is that he is an idiot for starting the war in Iraq. Well I think that was a mistake too, but it's done and we have to move on. If Bush pulled out of the war now, then the terrrorists would think that they won, and the first thing they'll say is, 'Where next?' The world is unsafe as it is. If he pulled out, it might even be a risk to let the kids out of the house. Right now, the only good thing about the war is that all focus is on Iraq. The terrorists are too preoccupied with Iraq right now to cause chaos anywhere else. Can you even imagine how horrible it would be if the terrorists won? It's time to stop pointing fingers about who's fault it is and

actually do something about it!! I don't see anyone else out there risking their necks! How immature is it to say, 'Oh it's his fault, all his fault!' We are not little second graders, and we need all the support we can get. As one, we need to fight for what is right. I just wanted to know why you hate Bush so much, he is only trying to make the world a safe place to live in.

Britain, you guys are like one of the only people who're taking initiative to the current situation, however horrible. Fighting for what is right when it is so much easier to stick up your nose and turn away like so many others. I salute you.

Many european countries were profiting from Iraq's Oil-For-Food program. France, Belgium and others were illegally buying embargoed oil from Iraq through the pipeline that ran through Syria. France, Germany and Russia had joint contracts to build nuclear power plants in Iraq (and Iran) and were trying to negociate rights to oil fields in exchange for having the embargo lifted.
It is all about the money they were making, when the US government (only the most uninformed think it was just Bush) decided to enter Iraq took away an easy and illgotten money.

I've been reading some of the comments made in here about why Europeans don't like Bush. I think some of those feelings are justified, but many others are misguided. Just because we do not believe the exact same things that you do is no cause to hate. It is not any nations place to bend to the will of every other nation on earth. The each have their own goals and objectives.
To the individual from the UK who stated that Bush started the war in Iraq to combat terrorism maybe you need to look at you own leaders and criticize them first if you feel what Bush did was wrong. How many times has your own nation tried to colonize and control the world? How many wars has your nation started? How many times has you nation called anyone who did not agree with your policies rebels and terrorists? I sure as hell did not see Europe refusing American help in WWI & WWII. The only time you misguided hypocrites approve of American policy is when you see something in it for yourself. If America had not saved your pathetic nations in WWII you would all be speaking German and this entire discourse would not be taking place.
Any time there has been a disaster anywhere in the world it is America who responds first. It sure as hell isn't Great Britian. That country is full of too many self-righteous snobs.
As far as the Kyoto treaty.....I don't know for a fact that there is a link between pollution and green house gasses that are supposedly causing global warming. Their are scientists from all over the world that disagree on whether its a fact or not. I do know that choosing to regulate the pollution by certain countries and not all countries is just wrong. I know for a fact that volcanoes distribute more pollution into the atmosphere on a yearly basis than any pollution caused by man. This world has been here a lot longer than mankind and will be here long after we are gone. I believe that global warming is a part of the natural cycle. I think that mankind needs to get over its "GOD COMPLEX" . Nothing we do for the bad or good is going to have any kind of overall effect on nature. We can't stop natural disasters. It doesn't matter what we do . Thats all that global warming is ... a part of the natural rythym of the planets. Take your head out of your ***

Many Europeans are confused about how to deal with certain groups of people. They are trying the philosophy that any conflict can be peacefully resolved (which it really can't - ask Israel about how that works). This is why they do things such as ban the death penalty. Bush is someone who understands the terrorist mind and realizes that they'll stop at nothing until their crazy ideologies are embraced. If you disagree with them, they blow you up - not exactly able to be reasoned with.
War is a terrible thing, but necessary in some situations. Note that in Iraq, the US was not the first one to start the war. Saddam's human rights abuses, refusals of UN inspections, and constant threats (oh, and attempting to destroy Kuwait) eventually led to the Iraq war. Note that the period of time between Persian Gulf War and the Iraq War was the US' attempt at reasoning with a despot. It didn't work, so we finish the War. Now, 3rd parties (Iran, Syria, etc.) are involved in the Iraq war, because they hate what America stands for (freedom, essentially) and as long as they cause strife, the weaker the US seems and the more "the world" disapproves of the US (and the more simple minded Americans disapprove of Bush).
So there you go. The EU is mad at Bush because they are trying a philosophy that has been proven to not work and Bush is going against it.

1. Americans hate Bush too.
2. Europeans are not brainwashed by the US media.
3. The war on terrorism is stupid because it can not be won. Just like the war on drugs (Bush #1). The war can not be won! Terrorism will always go on. In fact the war causes more hate. The war is an excuse to avoid the real issues such as health care. Love is the only cure for hate. The words of Martin Luther King Jr. are a better example for our county.
4. Most terrorism in the US is done by US citizens (born and raised in the US).
5. The real US problems are in the US. Let us all focus on them.

First of all, the hatred of Bush seems to be universal, particularly since the Iraq war began in early 2003. The Afghanistan war made sense; after all, that is where the terrorists were based, but Iraq just seems like a lot of needless destruction. Yes Saddam was evil, but so is the dictator of North Korea and others. There may be a bit of European elitism in their disdain for us, but part of seems justified given our ineptness in handling the situation in Iraq. People feel pretty much the same way across the globe.

What ! The EU is not the sole view of every european and most people in Britain are not happy with america's performance anyway. 'He is trying to stop the terrorists' is a pile of BS. How on earth can you ally yourself with a dishonest administraton.
No country has made more money off the pure suffering and chaos in Iraq than america. France's trade links with Saddams' stupid government was only one side of the coin - we were all running guns just to make sure that they wouldn't turn to the communists. As far as the corruption in the UN goes, with the 'oil for food scandal' ask yourself WHAT country has more influence over the UN than any other! 'the terrorists are preoccupied in Iraq' there were never any terrorists, it was BS and lies, you were caught lying to the world, this is why the EU hates Bush.

First of all, to Euopeans, Bush comes across as somebody who can't string a sentence together or understand what he is saying. That is a frightening thing in the President of the most powerful country on earth. Secondly, many Europeans know that he swindled the first election, also a frightening thing.
Thirdly, he doesn't seem to care at all about world opinion, he wouldn't sign teh Kyoto Treaty, despite the fact North America is the world's biggest polluter, he pays no attention to the UN.
Fourthly, it is ridiculous for some certain Americans to assume that Europeans are annoyed because some people ran off 400 years ago and claimed independence in America and became rich and powerful. I'm from Europe, and good for those people. It's just what they've ended up doing with that power that frightens people.
Fifth, yes, terrorism is a threat, but it's no good running around starting wars and talking in all this rhetoric. What about looking at the underlying causes of the terrorism rather than just getting all gung-ho, and no, it's not simply because these people are out and out evil. No one blows themselves up for no reason.
Europeans don't feel that America is protecting the world from terrorism, far from it. America's actions have increased the terrorist threat. Also, the terrorists aren't peroccupied with Iraq, you think that's where the terrorists are from? There isn't any link between Al-Qaeda and Iraq. In fact, George Bush himself said that the hardest thing he's had to do in his Presidency is try to come up with a convincing link between Al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein and Iraq. (Big faux pas, George)
Another reason Europeans don't like Bush is that he uses religion as an excuse for war- he said that God told him to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq which subsequently resulted in the loss of many innocent lives. This is a dangerous way for a politician to talk and behave, and is very reminiscent of what the terrorists themselves say to justify their killings of innocents.
Europeans don't hate Bush for no reason, they just have a broader and more free press and media that do not put such an extreme bias on reporting of events as the American media does.
Incidentally, most Americans I have met who travel outside of America also hate Bush. It seems that once you get out of the US, you see him for what he really is.
There is a very good book called "Why do People Hate America?" by Ziauddin Sardar and Merryl Wyn Davies that explains a lot of what you want answering. It's not an anti American book, but just looks at the points of view of some of the rest of the world and explains attitudes and reasons for them.

its not that they don't like bush, they simply don't like Americans. i don't understand why. i am an American that lives in Spain. my husband is from Spain, and defends Americans more than i do.
with all the culture they have, i think they still have the chip on the shoulder, that they needed the Americans to help them in WWI, and WW II. they will always criticize anything Americans do.
but they will apply for American jobs, send their children to Americans universities, but are too proud to admit, that now, for good or for bad, Americans have the power to "save the world", and this is very difficult to swallow.
not all Europeans are like this, but a majority has this contradictory feeling. I have had long conversations with lots of people, and really haven't got a strong conclusion, that in this theme, they are very ignorants, even though the culture they have.
Look at the president of Spain, his allies are, Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia. but he is so anxious to get an invitation from Bush, he cant stand, the negative. but this is how story goes. PURE CONTRADICTION

American Govt was responsible for sponsoring the Terrorism in Afghanistan and helped them to fight against USSR. Once it was over then American Govt Invaded the Afghanistan but the terrorism sponsored by USA spread like wild fire and today's terrorism is actually guided or created by USA., and Bush played a leading role in the expansion of terrorism...Now he says he is fighting Terrorism by creating so many Taliban in the past...So we hate him
