Unfortunately I don't know how much it'll be in dollars or euro , but I can suggest you some of my ideas :)
My brother 'll have birthday on 30 January and I wanted to buy him something special and memorable just like you. I searched for silver jewelry but all founded were simple bracelets :)
And I bought him a very unique and rare book J.Amado
What I'm talking about? Sorry ,so here are my suggestions:
1)You must buy him something what he likes ,needs or wants
2) It can be his favorite perfume , watches or beautiful bracelet
Cause: when he'll use perfume he'll remember about you
when he'll see what time is it he'll remember that you presented them - you know what I mean :)
3)just use your imagination and don't be greedy , cause 18 birthday is important anniversary!

Get loads of pictures of him, his friends and his family, fun times out you have had together things like that, make him an album that he would be able to treasure for the rest of his life. Alternatively, you can make these photos into a book, my brother did this for my mum and you could see the tears rolling down her cheeks. Its quite cheap and makes a truely memorable present, its really worth the time you put in. Seeing them smile is just the best!

Use dollars. You can only spend rupees in india. Unless you give him a plane ticket and a passport the rupees will be worthless. Anyways all Indians are good for is taking American jobs. Give him the American Dollar. It means more.

that's a hard question. there are a lot of things you can give him, like a huge surprise party, or something what he always wanted (something possible), or call his friends and go out whit him in town, etc. good luck
