News Flash for those who simply *won't* pay attention. Iran is no longer accepting dollars for thier oil. They are accepting euros only. This is how they would fight the U.S. because they are already doing so through this endeavor. They are also making deals with Venezuela to have that country do the same thing.

Are you nuts? Up until the clerical rule in Iran, Iran was one of America's strongest allies in the world, until that anti-semite Carter decided to mess it up and betray the Shah.
If Carter had not betrayed the Shah, or at least allowed out Marines to open fire in the people who stormed the embassy, our relations in the mid-east would be stronger and better than they are today.
Iran wants to rule the arabs, as the persian have always strove to rule the arabs by re-establishing the Persian Empire. To win the hearts of the people, they will remove Israel from the map. To successfully do that, they need to make the USA choose between Israel and the rest of the world, hoping that the USA will choose the rest of the world. The moment that happens, Israel is doomed, America is isolated, and Iran is THE regional hegemon for the middle east.
Iran is not fighting defensive policy. This has been their goal since the 70's. It is only a matter of time before a weak-kneed president gets into office and caves to political isolationists, cowards, "citizens of the world", and other 5th column types.

I like the question ,and I agree with some of your statement ,however there is a strong likely hood that the U.S. will Pre-emptily strike Iran based on amadinijad's scurrying around gathering allies for that eventuality .
when the U.S. does send it's air strike into motion we will only hear of it after it has been done there will be no warning for the Iranian government.
as far as blackmailing them well history shows it is never effective so it would be a waste of time .
the bush admin could just tone down their imperialistic notion to control the world and just let it live but the fear they have about another 9-11-01 will out weigh any rational thought process and there for will end in the destruction of the rest of the world or the U.S. I personally suggest that we learn to embrace the world and accept the diversities of all counties unique problems and help figure out a better way for all humans to live before we end up on the endanger specie's list.

Considering the problems the USA is having in Iraq, the lack of support for the war in the USA, and the probability that the USA will cut and run, I do not think Iran has much to worry about in regards to an invasion by the USA (or anyone else.)
However, taking out of their nuclear assets is a different issue. No invasion would be needed to do that, just some B61-11 bombs.

Well, Iran can comply with IAEA regulations on nuclear power and programs... Iran (as a nation) can muzzle their Presidents rhetoric regarding Israel, the Holocaust, and the USA... Iran (as a government) can stop doing provocative military exercises in the Gulf... Iran can stop shipping arms, explosives, and insurgents into Iraq... Iran can cease support of Hezbollah and Hamas.
The USA isn't going to "invade" Iran... but if Iran blocks the Straits of Hormuz or overtly attacks US Forces... we WILL respond. Proportionally as we did in 1986, 1987, and 1988.
Read the link to learn about Iran's Economy... only ONE percent of their work-force is employed in mining / oil.
"The Government is attempting to diversify by investing revenues in other areas of the economy, including, car manufacturing, aerospace industries, consumer electronics, petrochemicals and nuclear technology. Yet, Iran has a great potential for development in mining, tourism, and the technologies of information (including ICT)."

Why do we need to assure Iran of anything? They are the bad guys here, and they need to have a healthy dose of fear and respect for the United States in order to keep their insane leader in check.

if you think america is such a bad guy, why don't you go live in Iran? you'd fit in better, since you obviously think we're in the wrong here.
we're not. they have a mad man for a leader, and the fact you can't see it does not make him any less mad.

They could assure it very simply by ending their uranium enrichment program.
Not very hard, is it? Especially considering they have been offered uranium already enriched to the point of power consumption for virtually nothing.

If I lived in Iran, and my Iranian president was balking at complying with the UN over our nuclear program - BTW - before we blow the bejesus out of them, could we please look into their nuclear energy program first!!-- I would be looking to get the he// out of the Mid-East altogether.
