My father was a fireman. but many years ago he departed for the big fire in the sky( they refused him admittance to the one`down below)` He was a man with a fiery temperament, so he was well suited to his job. I remember once he got rid of an ants nest in the kitchen, by pouring petrol on it and setting fire to it, the floor boards caught fire and the kitchen door, but he was un-flap-able and soon had it under control. I tell you this ,because if he could hear you calling firemen sissies, oh dear! just remember the ants!

Yes. As mentioned before, backburning prevents a forest fire from spreading.

But, they also use explosives to put out Oil (Or sulphur dioxide, sour gas etc.) well fires. A quick explosion saps the oxygen from the immediate area and snuffs the well fire quickly.

When oil wells catch fire one way to put them out is to use dynamite!
While this isn't really fighting fire with fire, it's an amazing thing. (And pretty cool.) The explosion from the dynamite uses the oxygen in the surrounding area and the oil well fire is "blown out."

Actually they use that technique mostly with forest fires. They make a smaller fire to deplete the oxygen of the large one.

If there is a travelling fire (like a bush fire or something), sometimes they burn a breakline (controlled obviously) to prevent further spreading. Would you include this in fighting fire with fire.

Actually they do....I have heard of firefighters starting controlled brush fires to prevent them. And also in a forest fire, starting a fire further on in the path of the flames to leave nothing for it to consume at that point.
I know you may have been looking for less serious~ but hey, it's my one serious answer for the day.

actually they do. i am not sure how it works but i know that especially in forrest fires when there are high winds they have to burn some kind of fire path and they do that by burning a path so they can get to the "heat" of the fire.
