There's a product call Goof-off that I've used many times of different surfaces. It's a liquid and you put it on the glue spots and it just disolves it until you can wipe it up. Doesn't seem to damage the surface at all.
This product is available in most variety stores.

MOST adhesives clean up with mineral spirits. Take a scrap piece of your hardwood and rub it with a rag with some mineral spirits on it... rub longer and harder than you think it will be to clean what you need to... if it doesn't affect the sample, you should be good. Good Luck!

i'd attempt turpentine...it typically cuts and softens maximum glues...follow, wipe, follow, wipe..this gained't harm the end on your floor. Any type of scraping will harm the floor below. in case you intend on setting up some type of stone or ceramic hearth, you may ought to overlay the floor with backer board, for you may't set tile or stone to hardwood flooring...too a lot flow. if so, purely warmth and scrape, get on with existence.

Try goo gone. That stuff is pretty good. Or just go to walmart or something and look for something there. Maybe even an orange cleaner.

Try Naphtha.
It's done a pretty outstanding job for me at removing dried-up glue.
