A ROTH IRA does not earn any interest. It is just a wrapper, or a container for investments like stocks, bonds, CD's, money market accounts to earn interest or capital gains or both tax free. If you invest your IRA in stocks or stock mutual funds, since 1929 the average total return has been about 11% per year. For bonds its closer to 6%-8%. CD's and money market funds are not earning about 3% to 5.5%

That depends on what you own? You can have anything from stocks to options in your Roth IRA. The returns depend on you. All retirement tools today require work from the actual investor.
