In my experience, they are passionate about their culture, life, faith, and family -- and not necessarily in that order.

I'm Turkish/Italian; but I feel much more Turkish than Italian;) I live in Turkey and whenever I go back to Italy I just feel misfit there. Too many Italians are arrogant, noisy, ignorant (in terms of general culture), close-minded, and too religious. They pretend to be open-minded but it's just a cover; there are some good, educated, well-mannered Italians too but thery're too few, and that's what makes living in Italy pretty hard for a foreigner. Italians generally know very little about the rest of the world; they cannot live without their spaghetti, they hardly adapt themselves to new environments, they're basically uncapable of learning any foreign language and they live inside their little world without caring about the rest. The only nice feature most of them have is a great sense of humor, however, you always have to draw a line because Italian men tend to exaggerate with their jokes and can become quite offensive. Italy is a wonderful country full of beautiful landscapes and great historical sites indeed, if people could be just a bit better;); we have a saying :

'Ancient Romans brought civilization to every corner of the world, the problem is they forgot it there...:))))))))))))))))))))

Seriously, no offence;) there's good and bad everywhere: I have some good Italian friends too, they're good people; a bit arrogant, close-minded and noisy, yet good;))))

People from Italy aren't really that different from how I was raised. I have a lot of friends who are from there originally, and they're very sweet and well-mannered. A couple of them took interest in learning Cherokee, actually.

Italian-Americans are another breed altogether. Loud, orangey skinned (many use tanning beds in this area) and they think they're better than everyone. They don't ever shut up about how they think they're better either, yet none of them speak Italian! I usually find most of them, not all but most, annoying.

Italians are the best in Europe - IMHO. They have a fantastic and expressive language and humour. I like the way that they seem to treat food as a precious resource. The food also is simple and satisfies all five senses, but is also fast. Their sense of community also seems stronger, particularly within Italy itself.
