It is not at all difficult in removing illiteracy from India, it is the political angle that it is not allowing literacy to the citizens of the country, if the all the citizens are educated then who will vote these great politicians. In any elections the comparison and the gap of vote polled between the educated and not educated is too large. This directly allows any political person, even if i am, then i would naturally, would not want the people to be educated, else they would not vote for me, it is as simple as that. People are willing to learn and be literate but they are not provided with the basic need for education, then who will teach??

every parent should focus their attention on children.earning money is not a matter at all.they should feel that education will give all to children.education only will eradicate all deficiences in a society.they should co-operate with government in all ways &express their ideas when there is a need.NGO persons must assure their participancy in this matter.school admissions should be made as a cultural ceremony.famous actors and leaders should participate in this function. teaching&learning should be joyful.if these things are happen we shall eradicate illiteracy from our mother land...........we shall hope it will be done very soon.

Population is the major cause for every problem in India. That's why even if today we work a 100% on this issue still 10% are left illiterate. So, if population is limited our efforts would work.

Good question.
First we need to understand the problem.
DESPERATE
85% of people in India are desperate working slaves in an informal economy and their lives oscillate between fear and frustration.
EVEN MORE DESPERATE
The remaining well to do people in India are always in search of collusion mostly in the form of caste to enhance their wealth.
The Solution:
A credible basic “minimum” income guaranteed system for every one whether they work or not will bring in “dignity” instead of “desperation” in the working poor and “inheritance taxes” will stimulate “compassion” instead of “collusion”.
Such system will prevent all socioeconomic issues in India viz farmer suicides, dowry deaths, child labor, corruption, bribery, etc.
In Portugal, Brazil, USA, Belgium, UK etc this system is implemented.
Finally,
Employment is to survive in life.
Entrepreneurship is to succeed in life.

Put programs on TV which teach people how to read in the day time and in the evening, fine TV stations which refuse to run the programs. Also, make sure every Politician, Mayor, and City Councilor is paid according to the literacy improvement ratings.

Kids need to be motivated to learn to read better. One of the best ways to do this is to give them comic books. Comic books are cheap, easy to produce and distribute, and capture the child's imagination and makes them want to keep reading.
If there were some kind of program to give out comic books you'd find kids working a lot harder to get better at their reading, and they'd love every minute of it.
