I have a 2-year old. We went skating for the first time a couple weeks ago. I plan on having her in pads by the time she's five years old.

As an aside, having grown up playing and actually played with a girl on my adult league team who played for the University of Calgary, Alberta's women's hockey team, I should say this: Stick to defense or goalie. Not to sound like a sexist or anything, but girls seem to do better in defensive positions. They're not aggressive enough on offense.

Now get out there and start playing! I fully expect you to get a college scholarship somewhere to play for a university's women's hockey team!

I know two very good female hockey players. they face a lot of trouble though when trying to get into organizations which are still very sexist about many team sports.

Both of the women I know who play hockey have to play on Men's teams, that means they have to use the same locker rooms as the guys since there are no facilities for separate rooms for women in most arenas. They say it hasn't been a problem for them but it must be a little weird, and I know that the guys look at them change which may be a problem for some. It's an uphill battle but if enough women participate in team sports these things will change and there will be more co-ed sports in the future.

it extremely is not extraordinary, that's greater so uncommon. i'm a woman and that i play hockey. some human beings supply me a ton of crap for enjoying hockey yet in addition a number of human beings think of it extremely is truly cool that I play. i think of a few human beings discover it greater unusual because of the fact hockey is that this variety of bodily demanding and tough sport. a number of females do no longer likely evaluate hockey till they're 10 years old+ and that they provide up considering that's a demanding activity to understand. i admire hockey and that i think of it extremely is greater powerful than the different activity (i've got performed baseball, basketball, soccer, and somewhat lacrosse all whilst i grow to be youthful)

Yes, a girl can play any sports, I saw on TV women play football. In Canada, a girl good enough can play with boys until the age of about 12 years old. Plus, 2 woman played in pro leagues with the men.Manon Rhéaume with the Tampa Bay Lightning in NHL and Hayley Wickeneiser in Finland.

Who is this everyone you speak of? If it's just friends, who cares about them? If it's your parents, then tell them to stop living in the stone age (I doubt you'll be getting hockey equipment then, but at least they'll know how you feel). Hockey is one of those sports where both sexes can play. And if you're weird for wanting to play hockey, then half the women in the northern hemisphere is also weird.

A few years ago, the Tampa Bay Lightning had a female goalie, the first female to play in the NHL. The woman's Olympic hockey team has taken gold medals. If you feel you can play at a competive level, then go for it.

Go For It!!!!
My sons have had girls/women play hockey with them all along. It is definitely tough as you get older because of locker rooms, etc., but go for it!
My oldest son had a young woman on his team last year who was a freshman at a local college. They are a Midget BB hockey team and won the state of Michigan title 2 years ago! She was good and tough, too. The boys definitely respected her, as well.

There's no reason that you can't play hockey and be a beautiful woman too!

They can play and some play very well
There are girls teams and I've also seen girls play on men's teams. In fact there was a female goaltender that played in an NHL game
I'm not sure which team she played for ( possibly one of the Fla. teams) but I remember she did play

If she is good enough she can. They have ladies teams in college so go for it. You proably won't make the NHL but imagine getting in the women's Frozen Four in the NCAA. If you love the sport try and play and ignore the others.
