will float!

thats because when the cable breaks the elevator falls down under the action of earths gravity.

This is technically called "FREE FALL"

During free fall u experience weightless and the objects APPEARS to be floating in abscence of gravity.

So the sphygmomanometer will float momentarily as will the nurse TILL the elevator crashes in the basement

Wouldn't want to comment about the state of the nurse after the crash though!! lol :)

From what I remember of high school physics, and granted it's been quite a while, items free fall at the same rate of acceleration, regardless of mass. So, assuming the nurse dropped the instrument at the exact moment that the cable broke and the elevator began to fall (and the elevator didn't hit any obstacles on the way down, and the friction of rubbing against the shaft didn't slow it down, which it would), the instrument should be floating near her hand. I think.

It would seem like it would hit the floor r/t gravity?
