Why did President Truman decide to use the A-bomb on Japan?

a) Retaliation for Pearl Harbor
b) Japan refused to surrender
c) He was eager to prove to the world that the U.S. was a force to be reckoned with
d) He needed leverage against Stalin

I think all of the above, especially the need for leverage against Stalin because he heard that the Japanese were going to pay Stalin or maybe make some sort of treaty not attack each other. So if Japan and the USSR were one force against America it would be perilous to America.

I wouldn't choose 'A' because we had already dropped enough incendiary bombs on Japan to kill thousands of innocents. I wouldn't say 'C', because it sounds too manical and I wouldn't choose 'D' because by the time the atom bomb was dropped, Stalin had turned against Germany.

I would choose 'B' because Japan was rigid in it's decision to fight to the last man, before the bomb dropped.

answer B. Japan was prepared to fight down to it's last man against losing the war and being invaded! Fortunately the Atom bomb shook them enough to change their minds!

of the choices you listed " B " would be the best answer. there were many Allied Troops ready to invade Japan when the bombs were dropped which saved many lives on both sides.
