I am right-handed and find myself resting my right wrist on the body of the guitar. Is this wrong?

Yes it is wrong.
The angle at which you pluck the string will make it sound different. Plucking it laterally across the body will have a different sound than pulling it up away from the body and letting it go. With your wrist on the body you won't be able to pull the strings.
Also, where along the body you pick will have a different sound too. Plucking near the bridge will sound different than plucking away from the bridge. Keep your hand over the strings to give yourself the best range of motion.

I've been playing for 40 years and I rest my hand on the body too. I don't see it as a problem. As long as you can get the sounds you want, play it however you want. That' my opinion anyway.
