I am 41 weeks and one day. I visited my midwife on fri when I was Term+4. She performed a membrane sweep and said I was already 2cms dialated. She said I would definately have the baby over the weekend as I was fully effaced. She was so confident she said she wasn't gonna book me another appointment. My contractions haven't been regular, they start and stop. Today is Tuesday and I am starting to get a bit impatient now. Anyone had any similar experiences? This is my first baby.

Relax, this baby will come and yes I did with my first, I grew very impatient, but what you need to now is relax, take a warm bath, relax, breath in beath out....LOL...it will be okay, you need to rest as much as possible, build up your strength...good luck to ya..having children is the best thing that will ever happen to you.
GOD SPEED!!!

I had a similar experience with my first baby. I was given the same advice.

1 week went by and still no baby. I confronted my midwife she apologized and then gave me this solution.

Go for a little walk. Eat a good Meal. Have a bath. Make Love to a spouse as a mans sperms has a chemical in it that can bring on your labor faster. Then rest. I tried this and it worked brilliantly.

There is one thing i can tell you, your established labour WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT.

Good Luck

i just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on the 14th! i was due on the 1st. i had been dilated between a 2-3 for several weeks before my actual due date and was 80% effaced on my 38 week appt. at 40 weeks my dr. stripped my membranes. and nothing happened. not one contraction. i went back at my 41 week check up and again she stripped my membranes. i was still 2-3 cms dilated and about 90% effaced. she also told me she would be seeing me that weekend. (my appt. was on a thursday). nothing again. so i started walking on saturday and i think i probably walked about 5 miles. then i decided to drink castor oil. probably not the best decision but i was ready to have this baby. well within a few hours after drinking the castor oil... right after i went to bed my water broke. 6 hours later i had a baby girl and she weighed 9 lbs 7 oz. thank goodness i drank the castor oil. good luck to you. hope all goes well for you.

I do believe I'd call a doctor and get his oppinion. I've never used a midwife but I'm pretty sure doctors are better prepared to handle ALL situations. It sounds like you might be having failure to progress. Which is more important to you? A home birth or a safe, happy child in your arms?

SInce we are all women, I will tell you what to do. As long as you are past your due date (do not do this unless you are with in a week of due date)
MASSAGE your nipples, or have your husband do it if you are more comfortable. This is not about sex, it is about nipple massage stimulating the UTERUS, which
IS PROVEN to START labor. Ask your mid wife~ she will confirm it. It worked for me after I started to dialate.

If more women knew this, we would not be forced to be induced with drugs.
