I'm 23, have naturally oily skin (well on my face), this I've managed to get undercontrol but I've found my hands are really dry. Found this has got especially bad with the cold winter weather. I keep a little bottle of hand cream (simple) on my desk and moisturise whenever i remember. my hands still look dry and awful (really old as well). Any tips for baby soft skin?

I really feel for you, i have the same problem and understand how you feel, my hands always look awful like i have been fighting!!!!!! They split and bleed and are very painful, it doesn't help that i wash my hands a lot. As a guy said before it could be to do with bad blood circulation as i suffer from cold feet/hands!! Its terrible and makes you feel very concious of people looking at your uly hands!!! I went to my doctor and he prescribed me a cream i think it is called Epaderm, and, although not practical, it is fantastic, i only put it on before bed as it is so thick and takes ages to sink into the skin, it makes such a difference, after jsut a day or two you should tell the difference and after that just keep using a normal neutrogena cream throughout the day. Good luck..

My GP prescribed Diprobase cream for this and I've found it better than Neutrogena, although that's also good. It's non greasy and odourless and comes in tubes or 500g tubs with a pump that you can keep at home for easy application after washing your hands. I apply it before leaving the house in the morning and at night before going to bed. Your man if you have one will appreciate the latter as (not wishing to put it too crudely) it's not at all nice being handled by a woman with rough hands. He can use it too and you'll feel the difference.
You can get the cream on prescription or buy it over the counter. The large tubs are most economical costing about £12 and should last you a year. I fill a small container (an empty sampler obtained from the Body Shop - you have to ask nicely) to carry around with me. Boots sell Diprobase cream and no doubt other shops do too.

I use vaseline. I smear my hands with vaseline as well as my feet and wear gloves and socks when i go to bed. Not very sexy but after i did that a few weeks, even after the first couple of days my hands and feet are fine now. Now i use Vaseline healthy hand and nail cream for my hands and still use Vaseline for my feet. Don't have to but since it is cold anyway and i wear socks to bed i might as well do it. I also have a problem with dry hair i think it is caused by the water in UK because back in SA i don't have any of these problems. Try it, you won't be sorry. Good luck . Ohh yess just wanted to tell you that my sister has never used anything else but Vaseline on her face, no expensive creams and she has the best skin ever, she is gorgeous. But i would not advise you to use it if you have an oily skin. Ok then, good luck. Please try it ok:)))

Hi, As always keep moisturised at all times, There are some good anti-ageing hand creams on the market, you will need a rich one..You can use a hand treatment on a weekly basis. Bliss does a great one with gloves. Maybe you could also try a barrier cream to help protect your hands from the elememts and always wear glove outside.
Hope that help.

When you wash your hands with soap make sure you rinse it off fully and then dry your hands thoroughly. Then apply Lotil which can be bought from pharmacists. It's brilliant. Massage in thoroughly. I used it when I suffered with dreadfully chapped hands when pregnant when Neutrogena Norwegian formulas didn't work.

Reapply cream several times a day and you should have lovely hands in no time. When you go out wear gloves to protect skin from the wind and cold.

The most simple thing would be salt water, it will cleanse your dry skin to prevent it doing further damage and rid the dead skin cells that give the appearence and texture of dry skin. Then use a very thick moisturiser (but not too much), this will help repair the skin and give it the moisture it needs. Do this daily and ur skin will look/feel soft within days. Hope this helps.

Do an overnight treatment, it works through the night so it wont interfere with your activity's and you only have to incorporate it into your nighttime routine so you wont forget it. Slather your hands with a rich moisturizing hand lotion, then put on a pair of gloves. The next day you should have baby soft skin. Mind you, the sleeping with a pair of gloves on might be a challenge at first, but for the results it is well worth it, as they say, beauty hurts.

Good Luck!

I'm 19 and i have had the same thing since I was about 10. It's not a disease (if you have what I've got). It's simply bad circulation and your feet are affected by being really cold sometimes. hand cream doesn't work wonders for me it helps a bit; but i find putting Vaseline straight on is better because it heals the skin really fast! (also not so greasy!

Hi yes I have / had the same problem, but funnily enough in the last few years the problem has regressed, I am now 60. What have I used? basically virtually everything, now though I have fish oil capsules every day, don't ask, but since taking them the cracked fingers and rough chapped hands have gone. I also eat sardines occasionally.
I cannot say its a cure, but it seems to have worked for me, I also spent a large amount of the summer playing with cement and that did not cause a problem now either. It ruddy well used to.
