My little brother is very intelligent (close to gifted) though he gets poor grades at school (except maths and arts). His reading is good but he sometimes has mistakes in reading (e.g. he sometimes reads mian instead of main). His spelling is fair, but he always has 1 or 2 mistakes. He is a daydreamer, and he often catches himself daydreaming in the middle of a lesson. He has a wide range of intrests, though he normally has an intense intrest in one or two of them for sometime. He's also got poor social skills.
does he have any form of LD such as dyslexia or do you think he has AS (asperger syndrom).

Sounds more like ADD/ADHD than dyslexia. If he were dylsexic he'd probably have trouble in math in addition to his reading troubles, or he could be autistic since he has poor social skills but excels on other areas. Either way, if his issues become a real problem take him to a doctor - a GP, neurologist, or psychiatrist - otherwise don't worry too much. Some kids don't get straight A's or have lots of friends, that doesn't mean there is something wrong with them.

Your parents should have him tested. A lot of gifted people are dyslexic but labeled dumb. We can't really help you except to ask you to encourage your parents to have your brother tested so that he can get the educational help he needs so that he can work at his fullest potential.

sounds to me like he may have a mild case of both dyslexia and ADD

instead of labeling him, why not find ways to help him deal with what's going on. find techniques to help him spell and read better. help him practice focusing in school.

a professional can help you with techinques and learning tools.

take care.
