No. Access to resources is. The vast majority of wars, civil wars, acts of terrorism and acts of genocide are about access to resources, whether it's oil, water, food, minerals, diamonds, wealth etc.

I dont think so. It could be that these people are just using their religious belief as a reason to cause war on the planet.

A very good question, one could go on for hours discussing this subject but I guess I will have to keep it short. Ok I believe that Religion is the cause of most wars, Starting from the Bible, The Crusades, Jean de Arc, Henry 8th, The war of the Roses, and many more too numerous to mention, like Ireland, Jerusalem, and havinng served 18 years in the Army, It was always said "For Your Queen & Country and Go in the Name Of God" In other words a Licence to Kill. This is a touchy subject so I wont thread on any feet. Greetings from Germany.

I would put them second after generic power struggles. Historically, a great many wars have been about conquest of neighboring countries or revolution or civil war within a country rather than about religious beliefs.

Having said that, currently religious beliefs are causing more conflict than traditional power struggles.

Sorry Martin, not even nearly. You would be amazed how many nations tolerated each other in a religious sense until money and/or power entered the equation. Many Muslims believe the current incursions into Iraq and Afghanistan are religious, but the truth is that they aren't - oil and revenge are the main reasons.
Cheers, Steve.

I don't think religious beliefs are the cause of wars. on the contrary it is probably the lack of faith and honesty of people in their religoins that cause the problem. Most religions are quite peaceful when followed properly. I think many wars' root causes have more to do with greed and fear- which is involved in lack of faith. regardless of what religion the persons or people are. Hope this little opinion is helpful!

It's not so much religious beliefs as much as it is the differing religious views. Those who would blame religious differences are hiding the real reason for war.

All cultures - bar none - are based in large part on the religious beliefs of one kind or another.

It reali is because of all the clashes in beliefs
if everyone believed the same thing then there wouldn't b any arguements wud there
i mean there are so many diffrent religions and stuff
religion causes diffrent morals and isn't that what war is about
conflict of moral and ideas????
y ask this anyway
how will it help solve the problem of war

maybe, i think the thing is, that in order for men to do great wrong they must first believe they are doing a great right...
think about it, why would someone blow themselves up and kill others? Because they believe they are doing a great thing for their religion...
why do people kill abortion doctors, again, because they believe they are doing a great right...
when you have something like religion, it is built on words of men and women that are the interpretations from God (or gods). This words can be twisted into different meanings than their original intent very easily.
so yes, religion might be the source of most of the wars across the globe, but not directly. it is the people that scew the original intent of the religion that are the direct source...

No - people furthering their own ends are the biggest cause of war on the planet. Don't blame religion, blame people.
