The both weigh the same, one ounce. But the feathers will be about 40 times larger than the gold.

Gold is measured in troy ounces, which are about 10% heavier than the usual avoirdupois ounces. (A troy ounce is 480 grains; an avoirdupois ounce is 437.5 grains.)
Therefore an ounce of gold weighs about 10% more than an ounce of feathers.
(That's for ounces -- but notice that a POUND of gold weighs LESS than a pound of feathers. The troy measures (for gold) have a smaller ounce, but the troy pound is defined as 12 those ounces -- while the avoirdupois pound is defined as 16 of the (smaller) avoirdupois ounce. As a result the troy POUND is less than the avoirdupois pound, even the the troy OUNCE is larger than the avoirdupois ounce.)

The gold is heavier because it is weighed in Troy ounces. There are 12 Troy ounces in a pound... See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_ounce
