A smile and an acknowledgement of the compliment is all that is needed. A simple, but sincere than you will suffice.

When someone comments on how clever you are in a public conversation say "Thankyou for the complaiment. It is very much appreaciated and then people will think that you are grateful for the comment they have given you. However, if the person calls you inappriate names then respond by ignoring them completely, as people that bully other people bully them so that they get a reaction from you. So, by ignoring them you are telling them that you are not intrested in what they have to say. Until they say something nice about you.

I am dealing with someone that is going through the same thing right now. It's very difficult to be nice to your type. I find that if I do not compliment or praise, I get further in the relationship. As for you; in terms of what you can do to get over it(SHYNESS) it's going to be hard; especially when it is apart of your personality. Go see a therapist. Learning to relax when showered by good statements is going to take you TOOOOOOO LONG to get over. You and the woman that I am seeing may need medicine...I know that she won't take it so I just stay away from all good/nice statements directed towards her and show her through my actions

Simply smile and say "thank you". A lot of people have trouble accepting praise, so you're not alone. You'll become less embarrassed as time goes by and you gain more confidence.

This is simple, I heard someone once say that if you are paid a compliment and are a shy person, not knowing exactly how best to respond. Turn the compliment around..
In others words, compliment them right back.
For example - - they say to you " Your photography is beautiful"
Now you say - - "Aren't you sweet", or "Aren't you kind".
You've just said Thank you, and paid them a compliment as well.
They'll never know you didn't know what to say.
Good luck

Accept the praise with Grace. It boosts your selfconfidence. But do not get drowned in the compliments. A loving smile and saying Thank you will be appreciated by others.

I used to be exactly the same way. Everyone else is right. Just smile and say "thank-you". You know, you may be blushing, which would tell your feelings too, if they're paying attention.

Realize that you deserve the compliment. Accept it and say thank you. If you can pay a compliment back honestly than do!

The very best thing to do is to simply look them in the eye, smile and say "thank you." There's no need to elaborate, "thank you" is more than adequate and perfectly polite.
