I am going to be 18 in 9 months, and my parents have made things extremly difficult for me. For example, I currently have a job, but no car. I dont have a car because, even though i have the money for the car and insurance, they refuse to let me buy one. This forces me to walk 5 miles across town to work. I have decided i am moving out with a friend when i am 18 and splitting the rent with him. My mother says there is no way she will let me leave. I will be in my senior year of highschool and she says she can keep me at the house untill i graduate. Is this possible? and if so, what should i do next? Thank you

Hey man you technically coulda left 2 years ago...I moved out when i was 16 and my mom couldn't do anything about it. My Mom was the same way, Just keep saving money up because you wanna make sure you have alot of "reserve" money for things that way incase something happens you won't have to rely on them for anything.

Once you are 18, you can do whatever you want. She cannot keep you there just because you are still in school. You could buy a car now too. The most they could do is try to ground you.

No, she can't make you stay once you turn 18, EVEN if you are still in high school. I'm not sure but I think the emancipation process would take almost until your birthday anyhow :( My advice would be to just bide your time.

When you are an adult you can do as you wish. You will pay for it too. I guess the new buzz word is emancipation. Much simpler to spell moving out.
