Here is a portion of an outline I did for a graduate persuasive presentation on why people should use public transportation. Hope it helps!
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
A. In St. Louis, each MetroLink train, filled to capacity, can remove as many as 356 cars from traffic, while one MetroBus can remove 40 cars from traffic during rush hour (METRO).
B. Public transportation uses about ½ the fuel of private automobiles, SUVs and light trucks (APTA)
C. Urban rail systems such as MetroLink (St. Louis) can provide more capacity in a 100-foot R.O.W. than a 6-lane freeway requiring a 300-foot R.O.W. (Waste of space!!) (APTA).
PHYSICAL BENEFITS
A. According to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the average trip to work in 2004 for Americans was 25 minutes.
B. The American Journal of Cardiology states that commuting by car has been found to elevate physiological markers of stress parameters such as blood pressure. It can also lead to increased absenteeism, reduced job satisfaction, and decreased task motivation at work.
C. Users of public transportation are far less likely to be involved in an accident than operators of personal automobiles.

Public transportation saves gasoline and saves lives because there are less people driving on the road.
The End.
