In Co-Masonry the requirements are these:
You have to be of age (usually 21 yrs or older)
You may be a man or woman
You may be of any race
You must believe in a Supreme Being
You must be tolerant of other races and religions
You must be law-abiding and of good report
You must not be a slave
You must be trustworthy
You must be willing to keep within the rules of the Lodge and the Order
You must be physically and mentally able
Quality-wise we are looking for women and men who wish to improve the world by improving themselves. Freemasonry is a society based upon morality. Our lessons come in the shape of the tools of ancient and operative stone masons. Some advancement requires memorization and recitation. You are expected to attend Lodge meetings, usually one a month.
Dues are minimal although one does buy a suit and some apparel in the beginning. We dress in white. I think initially I spent about $400 but one can get by with far less.
When you apply, we do interview you to see if you will fit in with us and we will fit in with you. It is important that your family also be ok with your joining. Freemasonry is not about disrupting family or your duty to work and civic responsibility. We are about becoming better citizens.
We do not want atheists or law-breakers.

If you make it publicly known that you would like to join them, you do not stand a chance. Membership is by invitation only, masons do not make themselves known to others, it is tentatively a secret society. Apart from being of good character they are normally selected from the professions. You do need to be quite `well heeled` financially, they give a lot of money to charities and good causes.

Membership is open to men of all faiths who are law-abiding, of good character and who acknowledge a belief in God. Freemasonry is a multi-racial and multi-cultural organisation. It has attracted men of goodwill from all sectors of the community into membership. There are similar Masonic organisations for women.
