Hacking is not a bad habit. It is mainly dont to check the security system.

Have you heard about cracking? Both hacking and cracking mean the same process, i.e., breaking in to some secured area or accessing secured data or accessing secured data packets which are passing thro the network, etc.

The point where cracking and hacking differ is cracking is done by some one to disturb others or to steal data. But hacking is done by computer professionals so that to check their own security system.

White hat hacker is one who tries to break his own secured area or his own organization's secured area, so that to find the weak point and then to make the security system stronger.

White Hats hack for good reasons, for example to let people know their system is vulnerable so they can fix it before a black hat hacker comes along and does damage to their computer.
