Well put. Excellent. Just yesterday I wrote to Yahoo informing them that any further harassment with inappropriate violation notices sent to my email, will be met with the full representation on my behalf of Commercial Litigation Law.The freedoms you refer to are correctly, our rights. I am more than happy to join you and others in upholding these rights to the full.

He's absolutely correct about the guidelines agreement we all click on to accept, but few read all of it.
I feel ya in principle, but also know they have to have some rules or advertisers pull money cuz they don't want to lose their customers for advertising on a site filled w obscenity & insults.
I find very few things offensive myself, and as an occasional stand up comedian I don't get uptight about a joke that's not PC
But last night I WAS offended & did make an abuse report, not bragging or feeling like I'm the sherriff.
A person of little courage posted about 4 or 5 POW jokes w US Senator
John McCain as the butt of the jokes.
I'm not offended as a republican (I'm not one) or as a fan of Viet Nam (heck NO), or because I support his bid for President (still too early to tell)
The man served his country as an Officer in the US Navy, was nearly killed when a missile accidentally launched from an aircraft parked on the USS Forrestal shot across the deck and hit the plane he was seated in, he survived a the explosion & resulting fires which killed 134 American sailors that day.
Continued his service to America & was shot down, dragged from his plane, stripped naked, beaten dragged thru the jungle & beaten again with rifle butts breaking his shoulder & arm. All told he spent 7 years in a POW camp where I can assure you he was not treated w care or decency,
Making jokes at his expense offend me as an American & a human being.
Sorry for the rant, but there are some circumstances where one mans freedom of speech has limits!!

I'm afraid that the Yahoo rules are irrelevent here, the right to free speech is a HRA2000 law, the Yahoo rules are not law, you can't be sued for breaking a Yahoo law as the server is considered private property, which Yahoo has given us consent to access.
Also, Yahoo doesn't bother to read half the reports I'm betting, I've had valid answers deleted because someone who can't take the fact that I'd probably get "best answer" for it reported it, I'm willing to bet that if you reported a reply totally at random, it would be deleted, I'm guessing that the system does it automatically, to save Yahoo actually doing any decent moderation.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people that ask questions on this site who aren't looking for differing views with well put arguments to support their answers. Most are wanting people to agree with their own point of view and some get slightly childish if that's not what they get.
However, as gotcha points out we all agreed to the T&T from the beginning, it's just one of those things.

Sorry you signed up for this and you have to play by there rules. If this were a site that had no sign up and agreement terms then you would have rights. You signed them away when you clicked on the "I agree to these terms" button when you signed up for Yahoo.,

Yes, but as gotcha already said, we have agreed to the T&C for this site, daft as they are in some instances.
I fear that as Yahoo is American, the US rather overstrict "Victorian" attitudes, and their rather toooooooooo christian attitudes, still filter through to torment us in the UK, despite our more laid back liberal attitudes.
Seem to have over used the word "attitudes" sorry folks

But when you registered with Yahoo you agreed to their regulations which rule over and above what you quoted here.

I had an answer taken of the other day, all I said was: "boy you need to take spelling lessons". They said that was an insult to the questioner.

And here we are at the great conundrum of our times - freedom of expression versus incitement to hatred.
