I have my Itunes library on my computer at home. I have my Ipod with me here at work. When I plug it in to the work computer, it tells me that it can only be synced to one computer and wants to know if I want to transfer all my info to the work computer. I do not want to lose my library at home because that is where I download all my songs from. I thought I could authorize up to 5 computers but I am getting the impression I can only authorize one... HELP!!!

You need to set the iPod to update manually, so when you connect it to your work computer nothing will happen and you can listen to your iPod's music through iTunes. If you set it up to update manually it won't sync automatically as it does now, so you'll need to drag and drop the songs from your itunes library to the iPod's tag.

If you want to do this, connect it to your home computer and in iTunes will appear a summary of your iPod. At the bottom of that page under Options there are a few boxes. Uncheck the one that says 'Only sync check items' and check the one that says 'Manually manage music'.

After this you can connect the iPod to any computer you want and nothing will happen. You can even erase songs from the iTunes library or the computer and they won't get deleted from the iPod. But the first time you do this has to be in your home computer 'cause it'll probably erase all the songs from the iPod.

Hope this is clear enough.

Good Luck.

It is true it can only be synced to one computer. So when the message comes up asking if you want to sync it just select no. then you need to select the option to manually manage your files. Which will allow you to listen to songs from your Ipod through your computer. If this is all you are wanting to do then you really don't need to even hook it up to your computer. If you are wanting to transfer your songs from your Ipod to your work computer then I can tell you how to do that.
Without using it as a hard drive or burning your songs onto a disc.
Then after you tell the program that you do not want to sync your Ipod. it should be on the screen with the picture of your Ipod and will show Version and Options. Select manually manage music then click on your music file and it will ask you to confirm your choice. Then listen away.

You can only sync your ipod to one computer. If you plug your ipod into your work computer it will wipe your music. My suggestion is to (1) convert your ipod to a hard drive (if you have this capability, I am not sure what size ipod you have) and store your music files that are at home to your ipod then load them on to your computer at work or (2) burn the music from your home computer to CD's and add them to your work computer.

If burning to CD's burn them as a data disc (data disc's hold tons more music) this option is available under the edit/preferences/advanced/burning tab in itunes. Once you move your music to your work computer you can authorize it to play songs purchased from itunes on your home computer. The way to authorize the computer is to try to play one of the purchased songs and you will get a message that the computer is not authorized to play the song and you can then log on with your itunes log on and authorize that computer.

I have 5 computers authorized, but you have to load the music to the computer first.

Sorry this is so long, but I hope this helped. If you need more help email me at: goodesx7@yahoo.com.

The IPOD is really bad at file management. When you plug it into a computer it wants to erase all the files on the IPOD and replace them with whats on the computer. You also cannot move files from the IPOD to the computer without third party help. They is a manually manage files option somewhere which will stop it from eraseing your files through. Can anyone help.
