Dreams can tell you a lot, but not in a prophetic kind of way.
Most of the time dreams are just thoughts you have running around in your head that form images in your subconscious and do not necessarily mean anything.
Often if you are worried about something it will come out in your dreams. This can even help you resolve the situation. If you have a particularly vivid dream it's worth thinking about it. If you dream of being chased it could mean some is harassing you and work, or somewhere, and perhaps you never really noticed it consciously.
I find that if I'm unable to make a decision on something thinking about it before going to sleep can sometimes make me dream and help me decide. Maybe I'm weird.

Dreams are your mind's release valve. They are the musings of your subconsious mind. The only meaning they have is what you attach to them. When you dream, you incorporate feelings, emotions and general thougts from your own experience. If you have a TV on while you are asleep, you will find bits of whatever is on creeping into your dreams. Look at your reams as a kind of recreation and don't take them too seriously.

Sometimes yes, you're trying to tell yourself something...other times you're just processing what you've been living through when you're awake, kind of like running the hard disk defrag programme. Also remember that some kinds of medication can make you have strange dreams. A friend of mine was taking melatonin for jet lag and said it made her dream really wild things.

I did not believe in dreams and had no meaning to me until I had one or two tremendous dreams that till to-day I still remember clearly, hence I told them to my mum she said there come disaster and it really happen as it was predicted in those dreams:Also Freud studied dreams and he seemed to believe that at time dreams are sub-conscience of our brains!

Some dreams hold hidden meaning & reveal themselves at a later time.
I have had odd dreams & then things have happened that made me take notice that I had dreamt that very thing.

It means two things. One; you have reached REM sleep, which is the fourth level of sleep and is needed for good physical health. Two; it means your brain is functioning. Events in the dream have no meaning beyond your brain's own creativity.

As long as you don't take them too literally, yes. Especially the emotional content...for example, if you're feeling anxious in your dream, the chances are there is something bothering you in your life subconsciously, even if your conscious mind refuses to acknowledge it.
