OK we live in a house of 5, shared utensils and cutlery etc etc. Now none of the stuff actually matches, but there are of course some good utensils and some crappy ones.
Duncan has adopted this particular bowl as his own (all stuff came with house) for his morning porridge and lunch time soup. It's very nice, plain white, quite deep but small, and he is very attached to it. We all accept it, although secretly wish the bowl was ours.
Now Gayle has stolen the bowl and is eating her cereal out of it at the kitchen table, with a steely glint in her eye. She shows no signs of caring about Duncan's moral which we all think is wrong.
Please can all you good people out there voice your opinion by answering Duncan or Gayle, and thus we can decide who the bowl's rightful adopted parent is.
Many thanks.

If it, over a longer period of time, has been an unspoken and accepted rule that it is Duncan's bowl, then it is really petty of her to take it. If it's only been "his" for a week or so, I don't see why she shouldn't use it.
But, if the first is the case, then it's just a lack of respect on her part to take it. At least she could talk to him about it, and ask if it was ok if she used it every once in a while, and not just take it.
It really is something that you should all talk about. It might just be a bowl right now, but things like that tends to escalate if you don't talk it through. It would be a pity to break up a great friendship over something that starts with a bowl.
Maybe you all need to do some shopping and buy more bowls.

ok, you probably did not state his age, so i am going to assume rather youthful, because it is your first anniversary. So, for the anniversary, the duty is on him to get you a spectacular present. you'll get a spectacular gushy card, which will make him somewhat embarrassed yet be memorable years from now, and some thing from Circuit city or maximum acceptable purchase--electronics are cool, often no count number what your age, if you're a guy. And Valentine's Day is trouble-free--get him some thing from Victoria's secret or perhaps with similar the position you stay. that is a custom that you should start up now. adult males do no longer often want chocolate or cologne or any of the stereotypes for Valentine's day. sex is our important purpose that day, so the most acceptable present is to make it extra reachable on us.

just buy your own then you can't argue! Gayle is being petty but then again Duncan has no rights over the bowl if it came with the house.

Honestly: none of them seem to be very smart!
What's the big deal? A bowl is made to eat! It doesn't matter what the color is or who uses it!! You all learn to SHARE, and stop being so 'attached' to silly things such as a silly bowl! And tell Duncan to grow up;)

Duncan should bury Gayle in the back yard and thus establish his glorius rightious ownership of the famed "Ivory White Bowl"
Seriously you have too much time on your hands and its a bloody bowl.

There are many ways of dealing with this. Suggest that Duncan go to bed early one night, but sleeps in Gayle's bed, to see how she enjoys a dose of her own medicine - If she REALLY enjoys it, buy a camcorder.

Don't know where you're from, but bowls cost a $1.00 just about anywhere. I hope this was a story for a childrens book on "how to share".
