I learned a long time ago to not lift excessive weight. Why would you when you have jacks around that can be used? Tires are the most common thing to hurt your back with. I have hurt mine I don't know at the times lifting tires, but I did figure out a way to use my legs to lift while keeping my back straight, and I haven't had a back problem since then. If a tire is too heavy for me to lift, I will get help, and use a jack to lift the tire to its position. I have found that standing over a fender all day long is the worst thing. After working on an engine all day long bent over the fender or grill, your back will sometimes kill you for days afterward. I would advise you to get away from the brake work, and do something different such as engine work, because its not as hard on your back.
Glad to help you, Good luck!!!

I worked as a tech for 28 years, and have had several back strains from lifting various items. None ever required surgery, but a couple required time off from work and physical therapy. I also sustained two hernias, both which required surgery, and still bother (on occasion) to this day. I have worked with people that have injured their backs bad enough to require surgery. Being an auto or truck technician will wreak havoc on you physically, especially after you hit about 35-40 years of age. Even though I enjoy working on cars, it's a physically demanding job!!

I've done my share of auto mechanics in my life to say that yes I've experienced some back pain as a result of lifting tires and such. When working on cars you put your body into some wild and crazy positions while working in some very confined places. whether you are under the car or working from the top to get to where you need to get you may find yourself in a very awkward position. This is very stressful to your body, ligaments, muscles, and nerves. Lifting a tire after being in such a difficult position may as for me send shock waves through you back. I have been to a doctor once in my life due to my back pain. I will say this, if you are a mechanic i suggest that you start every morning with a stretching exercise. take at least 5 minuets to stretch your whole body. This is what my doctor recommended for me and it work very very well.

I have done it since 1984, I have never had an injury to my back that wasn't more than some slight pain. I learned early on how to lift properly.

get your self a hammer and a dent puller, so spray paint in cans, and circulate to a junk backyard for the different factors (besides the actuality that your automobile isn't uncomplicated and you have gotten a tricky time looking factors in a junk backyard). Pound/bend/spray in spite of you need to to purely save the junker working till it particularly is going to actual poops out for otehr reasons. automobiles are a depreciable, disposable merchandise.
