It really depends on the demand to see the film. But cinema chains will book big movies for months. Also, in London, there are independent cinemas playing films that have been out for a long time because there is a niche for them. This time of year for example, some places (eg. Riverside Studios) will show Oscar nominees that people might have missed.

Massive films can stay in cinemas for 6 months and will only get pulled to allow build up for the DVD releases. LOTR and Harry Potter stuck around for ages.

That all depends on how successful they are.
Most blockbuster movies are in cinemas for about 8 - 10 weeks, and then released on DVD a couple of months after that.
However, films such as Titanic were in the cinemas for 6 months as word of mouth spread that it was a 'must see' film.
Very successful films (Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribbean, James Bond) will be shown for up to 12 weeks before the studios decide to pull it and get the DVD out.
Small films, such as The Queen, which has been in the American box office chart for 17 weeks now, will stay around for longer as they are distributed to fewer cinemas, and again it is word of mouth (or Golden Globe nominations) that keeps people interested in the film.

It depends on the movie usually it's around a month for each film. It all depends how many people go to see it each week, if a film has a poor showing audience. The cinema will take it off faster than one with is still getting audiences.

Casino Royale is still on in my local cinema so people are still going to see it.

Depends on how popular it is!! Some movies such as blockbusters can spend months screening at a cinema, whereas others may only be out for one week!
