The Infrared or blue-tooth are used for communicating with other cellphones to share pictures,ring tones,movie clips..

Depending upon the age of ur son, u can really figure out what's he sharing with his mobile!

Infra red in phones is used to transfer data (pictures,music etc) from one device to another. The 2 devices have to be in line of sight with each other.

Infra red is normally used to transfer information between another phone or a computer. You can easily transfer pictures or sounds from one appliance to another. It is however, very slow. I would recommend using blue tooth instead; its much quicker and more popular nower days. hope this helps!

its for transferring information like files and contact details e.g peoples numbers through the infra-red port. it does the same as bluetooth really except you have to keep the connection beam between the two ports constant

Basicly it's an earlier type of bluetooth, just slower, harder and less used by people. If your son has bluetooth also, then it's better to use

you can communicate to another phone - or laptop - with infrared facility. they have to be in line-of-sight, and the data rate is pretty slow.
Bluetooth has made this facility pretty much obsolete

You can use it to send pictures, videos, ringtones, and music to other phones. You need to have it close with another phone though.
