The Cowboys need a head coach. Who is the best person for that job and Tony Romo?

If the Cowboys are looking for a coach who can cultivate Tony Romo, then Norv Turner could be the best option. However, if they want to make the best possible use of their talent and win now, then a defensive coach like Ron Rivera or possibly Bill Cowher would be a better choice. I would say the best possible coach available is Ron Rivera.

Right now there are a lot of ex-coaches looking for jobs. Of the retreads there are Art Shell, Dennis Green and Jim Mora to name a few. But I think the Cowboys need some new blood. There are several assistant coaches ready to take over. There is Chan Gailey. Russ Grim and Ron Rivera, who were considered by the Steelers. Not to mention several college coaches that would want to try their luck in the NFL. I honestly think Jerry Jones will hire a "name" coach, therefore, I'd say either Green, Gailey or Grim. Green has had too many chances to show what he can do and hasn't lived up to expectations. Both Galey and Grim will get long looks but I think Chan is "The Man" for the job! No matter who gets the job, you can be sure Tony Romo will be the starting QB as he is future of the Cowboys.

Lovie Smith is the choice. It remains to be seen if they can pry him away from Chicago. Chicago only paying him 1.3 million and extending his contract 1 year may come back to haunt them. I would say it is 50/50 that he goes to the Cowboys. His agent is already talking with Jones.

Dan Reeves keeps coming to mind. Ex-Cowboy player who has two young QBs on his resume in Elway and Vick. Not sure if this is realistic, or just something I'm mulling over, though.
