I use the bus every day. I seldom come across drivers such as though you describe. But then, I am a mature woman, who takes no nonsense ... and gives none.
I heard a bus driver talking about the abuse he takes every day. He drove through a Muslim area and frequently was subjected to racist abuse - on a daily basis. It was absolutely horrifying. When I see the way kids behave on the bus too, I wish the bus drivers would take more action and throw the rowdies off. They should bring conductors back.

Same holds true here in the States, at least in NYC. I know a retired bus driver, he said he didn't smile for over 30 years and never took back talk sass from anyone.

great question - it must have something to do with the crowds especialy in big cities - cause in other coutries in europe it is not so bad. London is so overcrowded, it is probably lots of stress to be a bus driver.
