I thought that when Futurama started up it would be great coz the Simpsons had lost it's edge. And Futurama WAS great. Much better than the Simpsons in so many ways.

But the quality of the Simpsons dropped further, so Matt and his team were forced to kill Futurama and go back to what is basically the core of Fox's TV business. But it has never really held together since then, in my mind. It is a tired formula... after 13 seasons they are really struggling to come up with something original.

I have heard that it takes about six months in production line for an episode of Simpsons to develop, and I hear of late the makers are running out of new idea. This is quite understandable given the limitation and the number of episodes already produced, ideas utilised; each word of each episode, I believe, has to pass through rigorous approval procedures before it is suitable for perhaps the widest range of audience worldwide. This is true that some episodes are not so good; it often appears that they isn't a brilliant idea or plot to make an amusing story live for the cartoon sitcom, it is just that every here and there a gag is fixed and the rest of the plot is to somehow bring the viewers at the point. But I still like them; I am also a big fan of Futurama.

I saw the one with the White Stripes in for the first time the other day and I thought that was brilliant. Like most shows, there is the odd 'off' episode but in general, I still enjoy it and I prefer the newer ones. I think there's too much hype about new episodes these days. I found the recent episode with Keither Sutherland in it when Homer Joins the Army a bit of a let down but Sky Broadcasting bang on and on about it like it was the best thing since sliced bread. I think that is the issue with the Simpsons these days.

I often argue with my housemate over this - he is a firm fan of the older Simpsons episodes, whereas I am a fan of the newer seires (anything after season 13). I enjoy the wacky and odd episodes, I like the way the writers poke fun at themselves. The art is definately more my style now - more colourful and cartoonish, and the animation is a lot smoother. That isn't to say that the older episodes aren't worth watching - they are, just not up to the standard of the latest ones.

I'm holding off judgement until the movie. If that has something new to say, then The Simpsons will be going until Mr Burns reaches 200.

Excellent.

It could be just them onscreen for 22 Min's standing around and I'd still watch. Its like there's some internal clock in me when its Sunday at 8'o'clock...its Simpsons time. Every episode cant be a hit but there still funny.

I still think they are one of the strongest shows on TV
the quality has really fallen over the last few seasons
but there was a writers problem/disagreement and
the creative upper management of the team have been
locked into making the movie for a few years now.

remember a movie usually means goodbye for a TV series

I think The Simpsons lost it a few years ago. Only the early one and the ones made towards the late nineties make me laugh.

I've actually stopped watching it.

The episodes have got rather daft recently but thats what happens after all this time, people run out of ideas, i think theyve pretty much done all they can, id love them to go on forever but its not going to happen!
