Tajmahal is famous because of it's beauty. It's built with pure limestone unlike any other stone buildings. You must watch it in moon light to realize it's beauty.
It's not famous for the underlying romance. but it's treated as a symbol or romance, hence it's common in India for the peple to present Taj Mahal icons to their loved ones.
