I was just wondering why are people with dogs not understanding to other people feelings. Like the other day I was coming into my house and one of the neighbor had 2 pitbulls loose playing around while he was talking to friends. Now me I am terrified of dogs especially big dogs. I tried to act like I wasn't sfraid but when I saw the dog running up to me I had to go the other way.

Why do people do that? They act as if everyone like dogs and no one are afraid of them when in reality people are? I really hate big dogs I can't stand them. I had a bad experience when i was younger. I didn't get bitten but I am scarred by it. I understand people like them but I feel show some respect for others have your dog on a lease. Isn't that a law or something?
We had a problem like that once before but there were stry dogs running around my neighborhood and they took care of it. All I want is for them to be more considerate of others. What can I do? To tell you the truth I was about to call the cops

People who have them, love their dogs and can't understand why someone else wouldn't. Your fears may or may not be justified, but they are real.

Calling the cops may be the only thing that will work. Don't try to take the law into your own hands. It is not your place to teach the neighbors consideration.

You were "about to call the cops"?!? Why didn't you? What are you waiting for? A trip to the emergency room for a dog bite?!?

YES, there are laws, in every town/municipality/county, about dogs being restrained. Call your County Animal Control (look in the government pages of your phone book) and ask them for the specific law(s) where you live. Also call the cops, and make a report about the incident you have described here. That way, if you ARE bitten, you will have already established a history/record, which will serve you well when you are in court.

My personal experience with people who let their dogs run loose is that they generally are not the kind of people who respond well to being approached by a concerned neighbor. These people have no regard for the law, for their dog's safety, or for the safety of their neighbors. You cannot make them "be more considerate of others". THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. You will get much further with having this public nuisance problem resolved by letting law enforcement handle it.

Don't wait until you - or, god forbid, a child - is attacked/injured/maimed by one of these dogs. You do not have to justify your fear. These dog owners are breaking the law and have to be held accountable.

He's an arrogant bastard who doesn't think much of people who dislike or are afraid of dogs. He also has NO concern for your safety and could care less if you get injured by the dog, as long as he can get away with it. He might even be looking forward to it. Many people who own pit bulls WANT to see them maim and injure others, or own them for dog fighting.

Call the SPCA or animal control and report him for letting his dogs off leash outside his house. This is illegal in most places, and owing pit bulls is illegal in many cities and counties. He'll get a warning, they'll have him on file and he may be forced to either get rid of the dogs or move.

Mace and pepper spray requires a permit in many areas, but there's a lower power version designed for use on dogs that does NOT require a permit. Also look into a paint ball gun. If you see the dog on the street without a leash, or it wanders on your property, shoot it with the paint ball gun.

Well, on the other side of the fence, keep in mind that many people who do allow their dogs the occasional chance to roam (around their own yard, I might add) are only taking care of their pets, and allowing them a little freedom. He was right there, at his own house, right? I have two german shepherds who wouldn't hurt a kitten, yet people still run crazily away even when we are walking on leashes.
Don't be irrational about big dogs; anyone with any senses at all can differentiate between a threat and a big ole baby. You should ask the beighbor to bring the dogs over closer to you, on a leash, and that way, you can slowly acclimate yourself to their size while they acclimate themselves to your scent. That's your best bet to ensure your safety - make sure those dogs know who you are.

Speak to your neighbor and express your concerns. If you are not satisfied with the response, put pressure on them by calling the cops, after all it is your safety you are concerned with and rightfully so.
