Information is key to managerial efficiency and effectiveness. A world which is subject to change and is dynamically functional generates new information every split second. And those who remain aloof and misinformed, uninformed or dis-informed tend to suffer heavily in terms of exercise proficient management and control.
Management Information System or MIS is a designed set of informational platforms which can be drawn upon for all key and strategic decisions. They are crucial in planning, organizing, directing and controlling an organization.
The areas which generate vital information are production, marketing, finance and human relations. Accordingly, there would be sub-sets of information systems i.e., production information systems, marketing information systems, financial information systems, HRM information systems and so on.
Management would identify the KEY RESULT AREAS which are crucial to the proficient, productive and profitable functioning of the firm and special attention would naturally be focused on them. They become key inputs to all managerial decisions and even education and awareness programs can be conducted within the whole of the organization to bring home the fine focus of these inputs.
Literature on the subject is very extensive and can be accessed for an in depth knowledge and fuller understanding of concepts, theories, approaches, and content-spread.
