I'm sure most of you have heard of the school/academy Oprah built for less priviledged black girls in South Africa.
After reading an article about all the "equiptment" the school will have, I couldn't help asking myself if that was really necessary. I mean, ok, the girls had a hard life and all, but since when has opulence been a prize to surviving a hard life? I mean, with all the saunas, and gyms, and bla-bla-blas, when will the girls ever study? Is it really necessary to have all that nonsence in a school???
Don't get me wrong please! I'm an absolute Oprah fan, but I just couldn't help commenting on this. Is opulence a cure for life's hardness? Who guarantees you those girls won't come out of there with their noses up in the sky, and forgetting where they came from???
Ohhh! And why does it have to be for black girls? Do you mean to tell me that the other races don't have hard lives?

With the kind of crazy money Oprah has she can pretty much do whatever it is that she wants. Who are we to question Miss Oprah?

Hi!
I am a big fan of Oprah too...and I think of the matter the same way you do.
Of course all the opulence is not necessary but when Oprah does something she does it "big", in big style. I guess we could also call it "the american way" if you know what I mean.
Personally I think it will mess with the minds of young girls- coming from the extreme poverty then suddenly find themselves among this flaunting life...
Well, yeah, like somebody already said it's for African girls which tend to be black, lol, still also you know that Oprah has been supporting the black community very much from the day one. She wants her fellow black brothers and sisters to "rise" from the injustice that has been done to them.
I just wish she would bild 3 schools with no sauna instead of 1 with it...

No no longer all adult males are undesirable and girls could be the two merciless inspite of actual abuse... this could be difficult because you're purely fifteen yet in my adventure in case you practice weak point evil human beings(adult males and girls) will see an common objective, in case you practice capability evil human beings will see a venture... In time you will study to no longer practice something yet all everybody is petrified of what they are able to't see or understand so at that factor you will ought to examine to open as much as the few those that particularly rely... Sigh i understand the line forward is long... X'-( yet no longer empty! in no way worry substitute yet elect what substitute you enable... actuality which you make an apology on the tip simply by fact your text cloth became slightly long in simple terms skill you have a golden fire and every person must be thank finished to have a buddy like that... I 'll end interior an identical way. thank you for examining and sorry i could no longer be of greater help.

I agree with you on everything except I am not a fan of Oprah anymore. It would be nice if she could help all races, especially kids in the inner cities of the US too, schools are falling apart and closing down, many schools right here in the US don't even have enough books to go around to every student, but the kids in Africa get a school built for the rich-I just don't get it. I know she is proud of her heritage but, others need help too.

It was Oprah's money and her dream gift to that particular group/race of girls. No one has the right to question what she does. I'm not even an Oprah fan but I applaud what she did. I wish someone would do that for underprivlidged kids here in the US.

I'm not sure that it is for black girls, its for African girls. I think she did go a bit overboard with the saunas and all that. Its not like they need to live like socialites but I guess its her dream. I'm glad she is putting all that money to some good. I'm a fan, too. I know shedoes a lot of good. I just think sometimes she forgets that her reality is not the same reality as "normal" folks.

i 100% agree with u on that one, coz im from south africa and im telling ya, that there lots more here who are having a hard time, besides the blacks. it is unfair and the opulence truly does not make sense. those girls will graduate a menace to society rather than a help.
btw, i used to like oprah when i was young and naive, but she really does have issues with being black, and it shows up all the time in her shows, her opinions and her actions (the academy school)....dats probably why i like the tryra banks show, even though it lacks deep and meaningful content. she doesnt make us feel bad for being non-black.

oprah is always right ...lol...but dont you think because she spent so much time to handpick these girls etc...that it was almost like the reward for them like a grand prize it had to be really over the top like the difference between getting into yale as opposed to community college she just didnt open it to anybody they had to really have potential and dedication etc...thats why i think she went overboard on this one

If it was me, I would have built more basic so that I could accomadate more girls. I think the school only takes about one or two hundred girls a year. Thats not very many compared to all the girls that need help. She should have built to take around five hundred.
