If I understand your writing,as 4x^2 +1 is always positive
sign(4x^2+1) =+1
so your function reduces to y =3 and its derivative is always ZERO

y = 3*(4x^2 +1)^.5

y' = [.5*3*(4x^2 +1)^(-.5)]*[8x]
