Silver Sharks !

The closest relation to a shark that you can keep as a pet is actually a real shark, believe that or not. You need to turn your swimming pool into a home for it though!
Other than that, there are a few types of fish that may be kept as pets that resemble sharks.
There is the iridescent shark- though I wouldn't be inclined to recommend one to you. My own Iridescent, Sharkington, is a foot long right now, and is expected to grow well beyond that in the 250 gallon. Even that tank size is ill equipped for such a large fish, due to the fact that they may reach a meter easy. They're also not easy to take care of in terms of the fact that they are jumpers, and need tops to their aquarium that won't harm them if they should hit it. Also, they're very edgy. They will run blindly into aquarium walls if frightened. Another example is the lovely bala/silver shark, who is also pretty unsuitable for the average tank. These guys get at least a foot long easy, and prefer being in grounds of at least six as they are schooling fish. If you have a large tank, you should also watch out for these guys, as they are known jumpers- they have reached heights of six feet out of water in the wild! And they don't mind trying to beat that record in your aquarium! A great fish that is shark like is the rainbow shark- not as aggressive as its cousin the red-tailed shark, the rainbow is shark like in appearance and sometimes aggressive like one, too. It shouldn't be housed with another singular rainbow- though 6 will even out their territorial totem pole. Best to keep these guys on their own with a few caves to dwell in, they are usually nice community fish when given adequate space. They get between 6-8 inches in length full grown. The red tail gets between 4-6, maybe 7 inches in length, and is more aggressive than the rainbow, but the same rules of housing apply. :)
Hope this information helped!

silver/bala sharks aren't real sharks. neither are irridescent sharks (pangasius). and neither are red tailed or rainbow sharks hehe. it's just the way they look. i think pangasius look the most sharkish but they'll also grow to about 2ft long (the pangasius gigas, a rare fish, grows to about 8-9ft!). balas grow to about 1ft long. red tailed & rainbows stay under 8". these are all freshwater fish.

there are freshwater sharks, but i have a feeling they're not going to be readily available in trade. they're likely to be rare, grow big and possibly protected species.

i'm not so clued up on saltwater, so you could actually get a real small-type shark, but i think you'd need not only an ENORMOUS budget but an enormous tank. Visit public aquaria to see what I mean! if you really want one, maybe go have a chat with your local public aquarium on proper care.

You can keep Silver Sharks in a standard tropical tank. They are sharks and they grow to quite a size (tank depending) and they are quite a talking point.

You can keep small sharks in a tank, they make good community fish. Just make sure they are the last ones to go in, otherwise they will dominate the tank.

You can keep sharks as pets. My cousin had a little one. Ask at your local pet shop.
