my boss would say if i asked him for a 40 hour contract. i am on a 20 hour but some weeks i do 30 and the next i do maybe 10 or less. but i want 40 a week no matter what cos i want to get a morgage with my bf to get a nice flat but we dont want any council crap. i have allready been to council and they gave me a flat but it was really migin in such a bad area and the waiting list for were i want to be is 10 year wait. me and my bf live with his mum and sister 8 but we want to be independant if u know what i mean. i also have tryed every were to get another job but had no sucsses and i like were i am got loads of mates there.

ps my bf works to he dose 50 hours a week works for his mum and there r no jobs going for me were he works apart from cleaning 10 hrs a week. which i very hard to do due to my other job be there done that.

There will be nothing lost if you ask the worst thing that can happen is he says no. I am not sure what the maximun contracted hours to fit in with the EEU social charter are these days but I think it may be around 35

I think you may find it difficult for your boss to contract you to 40 hours per week, but you should ask him anyway and explain to him about you needing a mortgage. If all else fails just keep applying for lots of different jobs and dont restrict yourself to just one area. Or if all else fails then try to get a second job and only do the 20 hours with your current employment, as a lot of mortgage companies will take into account additional incomes - hope this helps

When appling for a mortgage I think they look at your average working hours over previous 3 months so ask you boss if you can work extra hours for this period to cover.
