I am a teacher. I am being micromanaged by my boss, who is suddenly being nuts with everyone. Today, she left a copy of a child's social studies notes in my mailbox. In it, were some grammatical errors that the child made. Honestly, when I check a child's notes, I don't check for grammar. I only check for content. Am I wrong, or is she being petty?

I think it the "trickle down effect." Sounds to me like there's some pressure from the top. Have test scores recently gone down-- or are test scores not meeting expectations? Principals are held responsible for scores, so if she's making your life miserable, you can be pretty sure that it's because her boss is making her life miserable.

Is she being petty? Maybe. Is she right to expect grammatical errors to be corrected? Technically, yes. However, there aren't enough hours in the day for most teachers to mark every error, especially in a student's personal notes.

I'm not sure that I'd make a big deal out of this yet. Give it a while and see if she eases up.

Well, grammatical errors should be pointed out, if only to retain respect of the child!
If you don't do this, she/he considers that others, who do correct, know more than you.
A brief correction of errors without too much drama, and a separate notation on social studies notes would suffice.

Sounds like she is just trying to throw around what little authority she has! I hate it when people do that, its like things would run so much smoother if eveyone just acted respectfully. She should realize that you are the teacher of the class and however you wish to run it (as long as the kids are doing well) is fine. She is def being petty and you should call her out on it so it doesnt go any further.

You arent wrong but just to ensure the child's future is shaped if he or she does a mistake you can correct let the child know and help if you can to correct them. Thanx

I would actually sit down with her and have her explain her actions. That is really funny.

Good Luck!!!
