Good selections guys, you all sure know your basketball. Now I have a very tuff choice but since "information_police" was one of the first to answer and he did pick my favorite, Larry Bird, I suppose he gets the best answer. The best answer could go to all of you but yahoo allows only one. Thanks

OK, I'm assuming that players of the past, if they played today, would be bigger, faster, stronger (better nutrition, training) and would be able to play in the style of today (training) based on how they performed relative to the best players of their day.
Center - William Felton Russell - It all starts here. 14 championships in a 15 year period (NCAA, Olympics, NBA). You just can't do better than that.
Guard- Ervin "Magic" Johnson. Winner. Period
Guard- Michael Jordan. [unless he freelances too much, then I'd kick his butt off and get Walt Frazier]
Forward - Larry Joe Bird. After seeing him play, at the end of his career in constant agony from his back, and then come back from a near concusion to beat the Pacers in the playoff - THAT was the ultimate mark of someone who would not be beaten.
Forward - Dennis Rodman (I don't need any more scoring with the rest of these guys, so how about someone who can shut-down the big scorer on the other side and get all those loose balls) And I think Russ would keep his head on straight.
I think that's 30 NBA championships among my 5 players.
We're going 82-0.

PG - Magic
Could handle the rock like no other. Revolutionary player for his time. Probably would have broken most of the PG records had AIDS not cut his career short.
SG - Jordan
No explanation needed here. Simply the greatest.
SF - Bird
Quite possibly the best shooter in NBA history. Outstanding defensive player as well. Ask me this same question in 10 years, and LeBron might take his place.
PF - Garnett
Could have went with Malone, who owns all the records but KG's game is much more advanced. He's more athletic and has revolutionized the power forward position.
C - Chamberlain
Probably the most dominant player in NBA history. Shaq got some consideration but Wilt was like a man playing amongst boys. 100 points in one game...need I say more?

Magic at PG - Handles and passes the ball like no other point guard and could play multiple position.
Jordan at SG - Simply the best
Bird at SF - Best Shooter, smart basketball knowledge and ranks up there with Jordan with clutch
Its a toss up with PF - Karl Malone or Barkley (with Duncan close behind. But I have to go with Karl...he can pick and roll with the guards better (adds more dynamic to the offense), and could run the fast break better than sir charles. Doesn't have the moves of a Duncan or McHale which I love about those players, but has better all-around shot.
Kareem at C - no way you can stop that skyhook. If all else fails, dump it down to Kareem and that hook is money.

Point Guard: Magic Johnson
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
Small Foward: Larry Bird
Power foward: I Don't Know '93 Barkley, '98 Malone, Duncan
Center: The 2000 Shaq.
I know what your thinking (Shaq?) But Shaq was more dominate than any other center in the league, and he would give all these guys fits. Bill Russel, Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Robert Parish and Kareem Abdul Jabar. He'd make them all look like babies

I had to make a few bump ups in positions due to the nature of this question. But they are realistic adjustments.
PG- Earvin "Magic" Johnson
SG- Oscar Robertson ( Averaged a triple-double for a year )
SF- Michael Jordan
PF- Larry Bird ( 3 point specialist. )
C - Wilt Chamberlain ( Averaged 22.9 rebounds per game. )
I will take on any squad here with this squad in a five on five simulation.
