The security gates in our community frequently malfunction leaving residents "locked out" of their community. The H.O.A. claims they have no responsibility to their members pertaining to access to their property.

Your HOA regulations should stipulate what items are maintained with your dues paid. Gates should be included.

The homeowners should appear at the next meeting with an attorney to address this matter.

I'd be contacting my lawyer ...of course they have a responsibility to ensure everything works properly , file a complaint with the owners of the property and tell them you will follow through with a lawyer if the problem is not corrected !
