The minimum age you have to be before you can join the army is 16 years & 6 months old. However, you cannot go into battle until you are 18. The maximum is 33.

Theoretically 16.
In practice, I think the youngest recent death in combat was 17. I'm not so sure though. Theorectically you could join when you turn 16 (that exact day), train for 9months ish, & then be sent out to active service. However it is highly unlikely that a) your birthday is the day training starts. & b) that as soon as you get into enemy terrain you are sent to the front line, where they would probably want more experienced personnel.
In world war 1 i do remember the story of a 16yr boy dying in the trenches, but i could be wrong.
To sum up, theoretically you can join when you're 16, & be sent out to war when you are still 16. However, in practice this is probably not what will happen.

You can join the army at 16 and soon thereafter you can be sent to a war zone. So 17 would be my guess.
