The easiest way would be to buy a tuner. They cost like $10 bucks. You need to know what your notes sound like. If your gonna tune the guitar by ear. Make sure that the sixth string makes an E note. That would be your low E. Place your finger on the fifth fret of sixth string. Pick the sixth string and the fifth string together. You'll hear a little buzzing noise or vibration in the strings. Tighten the fifth string until the buzzing noise or vibration stops. The fifth string should then sound like the sixth string. Do the same to the fourth and third strings. To tune the second string. Put your finger on the fourth fret of the third string, then tune the second string. To tune the first string, put your finger on the fifth fret of the second string, then tune the first string. That is the standard tuning for a guitar. When you strum the strings it should be (going from low to high) E.A.D.G.B.E. It'll say the same thing in the same order on a tuner, but I recommend getting a tuner. Simply, because its easier and quicker to tune a guitar with one than, it is without one. Plus, its a lot harder to tune a guitar by ear if your surrounded noise.

Get an electronic tuner. They cost around $20. I've been playing for several years and can't tune one by ear very well.
