It involves going over there for a year. I want to be a journalist and this would be very handy indeed!

This course involves the culture, the language, politics and history.

People have advised me not to take the course due to the current stigma attached to the area. It must not all be war-torn?

The middle east is a beautiful place to live and study. Dubai and other United Arab Emirates countries like Bahrain, are not involved at all in the conflicts of the area and still represent the greatness of the middle east. I think you should definately consider it because as a journalist who studied in the middle east you could show people there is much more to the middle east than just war and hardship, it in accuality is filled with beautiful places and people!

I'm not sure. I mean, if you're planning on joining the military go right ahead. But I really can't think of a civilian job were you would benefit too much from that.

Hear's an idea. Take a course in the study of something "US friendly." Do that for a year and then wait to see if conditions get better. If they do, THEN take the Arabic Studies course.

You could learn to be a dhimmi.

What do you wish to learn about their culture? The subjugation of women, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property?
