Hi :) I'm 27 from Greece. 9 years ago I was forced to drop out of college and leave the US. I come from a broken home & barely graduated high school so being accepted by a Uni in NY was my big chance...Long sad story cut short... I suffered from depression, became a morbidly obese hermit & let life passed me by :( At 27, I'm picking myself off the ground & slowly putting it together, NEEDING to feel & experience what I never have as a teenager & young adult. Let go & party & learn & love & play!!! I am a beautiful girl, young at heart & mind with a new found zest in life but is it too late? Am I too old to go back to college? Is it too late to learn how to play the guitar & sing & study music (my passion)? I survived through it all & that maybe be quite of an accomplishment but how do i explain that huge gap, experience-wise? I feel like "like it was yesterday" & it hurts when i realize that it's a decade gone to waste. I still feel like an 18 year old but have I irreversibly grown up?

It's never too late to go back to school. Besides, you're young enough to be working for another 30-40 years. That's more than enough time to see a return on your investment in going back for a degree. Or, if you aren't looking for a career shift, but simply looking to engage your mind, there's no reason to delay in pursuing an area that ignites your passion. Heck, my mother got her bachelor's degree last year at the age of 60, and she's made a great career shift as a result.

If all you need is that push of encouragement to set you on your way to your passions then let this be it. What I read from you was like my story. I am 27 also and at the start of last year I suddenly thought, where did those ten years go? I dropped out of school also and always felt that I was smarter than my job, even though I like what I do. It just wasn't challenging me enough mentally. I enrolled at college in my area and just went for it. Damn, it feels so good to be learning again and it has made me a better person in ways I never even imagined. It is NEVER too late to go back to school, I had people in their 70s in some classes and they were embraced by all. It seems scary to go back when you are older but it really isn't. There are heaps of people around that are older and mature students generally do well because they are working towards something for themselves and not just 'going to college'. Also, think about what you learned in that decade of life experience. It make more things make more sense because you can relate what you are learning to a wider range of experiences. We never stop learning in our lives but it feels really good to be back in a place where they really get those cogs in your head turning. As for the guitar, go for it. You can learn on the net even. If you can finance going back to school, please go for it. You'll be pleased you did. Good luck =)

It is never too late to start over! Get moving and do what you want with your life. As far as explaining the experience gap, you only need to explain if someone asks and then just be honest. You went through a really hard time in your life and your are now putting your life back together. Go for it!

Of course it isn't too late! I went back to college at the age of 26 and graduated at 29. Nobody makes a big deal out of how old you are. The important thing is to follow your dreams. That decade wasn't wasted. It got you to this point. You just have to decide what to do with it. Will you always regret not going back?

27 years old? Come on you are still young! I have seen my fair share of people going to university at 40+ years old. The important issue is, life is short, might as well do something you really wanted!

Nothing is too late. Love all you can, learn all you can, play all you can ^_^

Your still a babe in the woods.

Your whole life is still ahead of you. You are young enough to go to college to get a degree (I did so at 38), young enough to learn a musical instrument and even start a career as so many have done (Rodney Dangerfield started his comedian career at 48).

Work and play should go hand in hand. Experience the joy of having people around you who share your hopes and dreams. That is one of the things that make life worth living.

It is NEVER too late to learn new things, find love and happiness. Life is a gift. Start to enjoy it to the fullness.

I think that there should be rules. Putting a curfew on her? that might be a little extreme, however, I think that you should express to your daughter, that due to worry, and for wanting to know who is coming through your door at odd hours of the night, a phone call, or text message would be nice if she plans on staying out late. Then again, when I turned 18, I paid my mother rent, and it became more of a roommate situation, she worried, but i payed my rent, so, she never mentioned if I stayed out.

Not too old at all, one thing that will help you incredibly about depression is stop/reduce drinking (if you do) and exercise.

That will give you a new focus on life. Sure does for me and I'm 37

Nothing in live is ever late. Go on and pick up yourself and live your life as you want it to be. Ignore anyone who says you can't. If you think YOU CAN - then -YOU CAN. Good luck!
