The Malaysian government designated the year 2007 as Visit Malaysia Year in order to commemorate the nations' 50th anniversary of independence. In addition to the exciting events and festivals happening throughout the year, the month of August, 2007, will be filled with a myriad of parades, cultural performances, street shows and carnivals.

It's the 50th anniversary of their independence from Great Britain, and beginning of their independent nation. They're planning 50 special events to celebrate throughout the year, as well as using the occasion to help promote tourism. I have a calender of their "Special Events," and there's nothing planned for the time you will be there, plus, most of the events don't sound too special anyhow. Have fun, it's a nice place!
